Queer pedagogies here and now

Teaching queer studies at the intersection of global and local challenges

The project intends to strengthen the network of the 4EU+ colleagues working in the field of queer and gender studies around the topic of queer pedagogies. During the first year of the cooperation in the 4EU+ mini-grant “Representing same sex desire”, this topic proved to be of utmost importance. Through a series of events, culminating in the symposium “Queer pedagogies here and now: Teaching queer studies at the intersection of global and local challenges” in February 2026, common knowledge will be built and experience shared which will allow for practical synergies and implementation of new teaching methods into teaching practice at 4EU+ universities. It will also create common ground for further joint activities and projects. The axis of the activities is the urgent necessity to better know and “translate” the rich diversity of European traditions in queer and gender studies at the respective 4EU+ universities, in the framework of dominant globalised canons and teaching methods.

The main output of the project will be the consolidation and further expansion of the 4EU+ queer and gender studies network, accelerating the synergies and opening the space for exchanges of scholars, Ph.D. students as well as students in BA and MA study programmes. The cooperation will open path for developing comprehensive joint projects in the future.
